"What I've Done for Chocolate" Daily Olive Valentine's Contest

Most of us have an humorous, impressive, or embarrassing story about the lengths we've gone to in order to get a chocolate fix. What's the most extraordinary thing you've done? Describe it in 200 words or less and send it to kyeann(at)dailyolive(dot)com (along with your delivery address) by 11:59 PST February 9. The winner will receive an 8 oz. Richard Donnelly assortment just in time for Valentine's Day and your confession will be posted (anonymously if you prefer!) for Daily Olive readers.
We are very pleased to offer Richard Donnelly Chocolates. Often premium chocolate is associated with elaborate packaging or sophisticated branding rather than quality. Richard Donnelly focuses primarily on the highest caliber ingredients and on craft at his low-key Santa Cruz, CA studio. Many of us have become accustomed to products (even quite expensive ones) that sit on shelves for months - so much so that we don't know how fresh, fine chocolate should taste. Donnelly urges consumption of his preservative-free truffles, caramels and chocolates within one week!
Stay tuned as we fill you in on Donnelly Chocolates' offerings between now and Valentine's Day. And start writing!

In my desperation for dreamy, silky chocolate I have tried to come up with a story of my desperate quest for it, but I can't. My mind is too foggy. Ir's been too long! Please, I'm begging you, give it to me!

I used to work in a department store where we sold chocolate truffles. Very expensive little "sins." I used to get muth watering by just looking at them. Since one of these little creations cost as much as half of my hourly pay...they were out of my reach. But my manager once said, that if they look like they are going bad, or have a crack they need to be written off the inventory. Well, needless to say, many of them "just happened" (hint, hint!!!)to seem slightly imperfect, at least 1-2 a day, that was. By the time I was transfered to another department, I managed to enjoy each flavor several times.

I have been known to leave the house at 11:30 pm and drive to a market 8 miles away just to get a bar of chocolate to satisfy
my craving!

I went out at 3 in the morning in a dangerous city as a 5-foot, 100-pound female! I risked my life for a chocolate fix!

Well When I crave chocolate there is no stopping me. I have asked my husband day and night, depending on when my craving hits. I have called on friends to make a quick trip to the store. But I think the most embarrasing thing I have done (at least to my daughter) is when her friends come to visit I beg them to go to the store. She hates when I do that. I don't really see a problem with it. When you have to have cholocate you have to have it.

When I was in my early 20's I was sharing an apartment with 2 other girls and waiting tables. After a rough day at work I was craving chocolate but felt guilty eating it by myself so I asked my roommates if they wanted any. Both agreed and I took a substantial amount of money out of my tip jar. When I got to the store I loaded up on anything chocolate I could find - candy bits, candy bars, chocolate milk, icecream. I picked up three of everything. When I went to the checkout, I dumped everything on the counter. The cashier gave me a strange look and all I could meekly muster was "it is not all for me.". He nodded and started ringing me up.

I'm about to write a 200 word essay for a box of chocolates!

Apparantly, judging from the number of people who have entered this contest there are at least a half dozen or more people, myself included, who are willing to write a 200-word essay for only 8 oz. of chocolate. Now...that's what I call going to extraordinary lengths to get a chocolate fix. Next week its 'Chocoholics Anonymous' for me.

I've never really believed that an american company can possibly make as good chocolate as Europe. Being from Sweden I always by a whole stock of Swedish Chocolate treats before I leave, I just hoped YOU can show me the opposite.

I remember being in a real decadent mood a few years ago but the only thing in the house that I had that contained chocolate was syrup, either yoohoo or hersheys. However, i had run out of milk and didn't feel like going through the effort of cleaning up and getting dressed to get some milk. I ended up drinking the syrup straight up as the taste of syrup in plain water leaves much to be desired. i probably would have mixed the syrup with seltzer but had none left either. It was quite overpowering and certainly something I don't recommend doing on a regualr basis but I took care of my need for a chocolate fix.

I am definately a chocoholic (hubby too). I remember taking the kid's 6 easter chocolate bunnies last year and putting them into a Ziploc bag to break them up for cookies. Well, I never made the cookies and every piece of that chocolate is gone. Thank heavens they never missed it, or mom and dad would have been in big trouble!!!Hah!!We would love to share that fresh chocolate, guilt free too!!!
