Appliances in Search of Customers
After doing some surfing around today, I found a couple new items that make me wonder where the market is for these new gadgets.
- Rollertoaster - sure it won the 2006 Red Dot award, but I'm not sure about what to do about the about the crumbs. And don't you need the room on either side for the toast to roll into and out of, so how compact is it really?
- Breakfix - an automated breakfast cereal dispenser. Pause. What was that again? Are you telling me I can't pour my own cereal in the morning? I think I'd feel like I was living in Wallace and Gromit's house with all of Wallace's contraptions.
- Coffee Mug Warmer - first off, not sure why my coffee cups need to be warm but I'm sure I don't need to pay $1,000 for warm mugs.

Kanae Tsukamoto's Tag Cup

Beautiful looking cups from designer Kanae Tsukamoto named Tag Cups. The silicon sleeve insulates your hands from hot or cold beverages. At the price of $29 each, it would make a luxurious gift set for a lucky friend, but I don't see buying them for myself.

New York Kitchen by Armani Casa

In New York City where large kitchens are a luxury, Armani Casa has designed a kitchen layout that integrates into a "great room" while concealing the appliances behind the wood cabinetry. While there's still limited counter space, at least the kitchen is no longer relegated to small galley typical of NY apartments.
Wait, where's this kitchen? In the private residences at 20 Pine, a new development in lower Manhattan where Armani Casa has designed all the interior and public spaces.

Too Lazy to Sing Happy Birthday?

Okay, out come the cake, candles burning, everyone says their "oohs" and "aahs", and then...your cake slicer starts singing "Happy Birthday"? Not sure where this gadget finds a place in your lives, but maybe you got a bout with laryngitis or are just too shy for singing. Popular in Europe since 2002, it's now only available in the US at Lavazza in Chicago, so we'll rely on Movable Feast's Louisa Chu's first hand experience to tell you all about Espesso.
